three days in a tree.

it's another glorious day in brooklyn! my mom, sister & i enjoy our pedicures (mom's first!) as we lay around eating gooey korean rice cakes (dduk)
and choco-pies (korean moon pie. SO bad they're good.)

to the left is my bro-in-law & my nephew, maddox, both on their best behavior this trip. aren't they handsome? in the center is a "prisoner" that the world's cutest nephew holds captive in a bonzai olive tree on the dining room table. this guilty playmobile knight has been tree bound for the last three days. i asked if the prisoner had to pee and maddox answered, "NO, emoh! (korean for aunt)" me: "why not? he's been in a tree for 3 days. wouldn't you have to pee if you were stuck in a tree for three days?" maddy: "no, he doesn't have to pee because he's a PRISONER. prisoner's don't pee." me: "true dat, kiddo." to the right is me & maddy on his 5th b-day! heart. he's pouring mia emoh more sake. good newphew.

here are images from the beloved himalayan institute in the pocono mountains. to the left is my homie, lewis w victor, & i at the waterfall. he's a good friend from moksha yoga studio. he's at HI to clear his head and heart. he's so in the right place. in the center is tree sap, ready for its close up. this is a tree trunk with three deep hexagon holes. very accurate woodpeckers, i'd say. to the right is baby chard in the wonderful garden that the lovely gardener tom manages. there was frost the night before but the teenager plants survived! i had a full 34 hours at HI. besides cruising the waterfall & garden, i had lunch with longtime HI residents larry & his wife, discussing swami rama's sex scandel. i also posed in asana for a photo shoot, taught a hatha class at their main street store & studied the yoga sutras with the amazing sandy anderson. my meditation that night was short but effective. i also bought the book, "path of fire and light" & got a new mala. japa. japa! here i come!

here are shots from the nyc yoga journal conference. to the left is the *lovely* miss kelly. i do adore her. she's a fellow parayogini. at the conference, we practiced kalari with shiva rea. it's an intense indian martial art that's very different from the korean tae kyun and shoalin kung fu i've practiced. shiva's cool! it was my first time studying with her. the freaked out indian guy in the center is lali, as in "lali lali lali get your adverbs here!". he's a vedic palm reader who blustered in late to the conference every day. he kept knocking his signs over all day. note that one sign says, "i'm not good, i'm the best" & that another sign is held up with blue painter's tape. i don't know if he was more of a spazz or a flirt, but he did read many palms using a desk lamp and a pile of colored stones. on the right is my three minute egg pal, jason. we had a great time rocking the yoga market place & sold lots of eggs. during the little downtime i had at the conference, i was lucky enough to study again with aadil palkhivala and my yoga homie, gary kraftsow. i honor gary's teachings so very much. he's so incredibly knowledgeable and is a *great* teacher. after i finish my studies with my main yoga man, rod stryker, i'm viniyoga all the way. ooooohhh, i love yoga sooooo much!
to the left is my sister & her hubby showing affection. this is so rare that i had to take a photo of it. theirs is an internal kinda love. their dying cat looks on, trying to cash in on some of that attention. my bro-in-law simply calls her, "deadcat". she's 15, poor girl. below is a great street sign in williamsburg, brooklyn. the mighty peter mcd, his boyfriend & i had drinks in willamsburg at a fun bar called "trophy", where two ladies recognized me as hosting chic-a-go-go. years ago, i made a verb out of this recognition (which i love), saying that i got "chic-a-go-goed". how fun to get chic-a-go-goed in nyc (again)! the guys & i moved on to eat dinner at a cozy place called "motto" where i ran into a former kick boxing student of mine who now lives in colorado. dig that! i love the chicago(go)-williamsburg connection! i have to admit that it's fun getting recognized in brooklyn. although, the ego plays tricks, i know, i know. it's all good.
